Foraged Listening with the Goats of Buzzard Hollow Ranch

A collaboration with the goats of Buzzard Hollow Ranch

Tags: performing with other-than-humans

I continue my practice of collaborating with other-than-humans, inviting a shared ritual of foraging and listening. I eat hay beside the goats as we attempt a conversation without translation—meaning is measured by distance and time, not words. The nonverbal score unfolds through micro-actions—approaches, pauses, grazing, nudges, and stillness—guided by our natural timing. Hay is our tactile bridge, grounding us in mutual care, while the goats’ choices shape the moment, inviting me to recalibrate my intention in real time. Deep listening becomes my practice: watching ear movements, body language, and the tempo of contact to hear what remains unsaid. In proximity, time, and breath, I feel the space between us expand into a shared field of knowing.
