Colette Copeland is a interdisciplinary visual artist, arts educator, social activist and cultural critic/writer whose work examines issues surrounding gender, death and contemporary culture. Cycles, Labor & Pointless Acts: Down with the Wall

Tags: absurdity dada fluxus

The performance is part of an online performance art class called Acts of Absurdity taught by Rosie Gibbons through ECC-Performance in the Netherlands. Our first assignment is called the Sisyphean Hero: Cycles, Labour and Pointless Acts. My action is to attempt to push and kick down the wall. The wall resists and does not tumble.

My bearded alto egos often deconstruct traditional gender roles. My pink work coveralls are from a performance group I performed in from the early 2000’s entitled Womens’ Art Rescue Squad or WARS for short. We rescued female artists who had art crises. Given the current political climate, the model of the rescue squad is more relevant than ever.
