Silent Scream is a collaborative series of video portraits filmed during an art residency at Mt. Sequoyah in the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas. I asked participants to visualize a time when they were unable to speak their truth or were forced to swallow their words. The screaming sessions become a form of catharsis and healing, offering a release of what no longer serves them.
During the editing process, I remove the sound, drawing attention to each participant’s facial expressions, gestures, and body language. The absence of sound amplifies the tension between silence and expression, making visible what is often suppressed.
The work is inspired by my personal experiences in Texas of being silenced and censored in my art practice.
