Visual artist Pooja Bahri’s (she/her) practice delves into the complexities for the intricacies of gender and social boundaries, the evolving rural-urban context, and the delicate balance between private and public spaces with an innate curiosity. Her work reflects a profound engagement with the shifting dynamics of our world, encompassing themes of social struggles, global homogenization, and the exploration of alternate dimensions.
Through her installations, sketching, painting, videos, performances, digital printing, and staining, Pooja embraces experimentation and material exploration. Her practice is driven by the pursuit of meaningful communication and the creation of a permanent space where thoughts and memories can resonate with a larger audience.
Born in 1974 in New Delhi, India, Pooja currently resides and works between the United Kingdom and India, drawing inspiration from the rich interplay of cultures and environments.
Pooja holds a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree from the Arts University Bournemouth in the United Kingdom and a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in English from Lady Shri Ram College in New Delhi, India.
Her artistic contributions have been recognized through notable achievements, including the Gold Medal in the Video Art category at the VIII Biennale International dell’arte Contemporanea Di Firenze in 2011.
