Yash Sanhotra (he/she/they) is a Textile Designer and researcher in the realm of South Asian textiles and costumes, based in India. He completed his undergraduate degree in Textile Design from the National Institute of Fashion Technology in 2019 and worked around several handloom weaving communities, indigenous fibers and museum studies for the next two years. He is currently completing his masters in Apparel Design at the National Institute of Design and working with the NID Archives as a part of his dissertation.
Apart from his career in design and research, he holds profound passion for the awareness about mental health and other social issues with regards to the marginalized communities in South Asia. In 2019, he worked on a project focusing on queer visibility called ‘Who’s The Freak?’. The photographs he modelled for were taken in the streets of Old Delhi, and exhibited at AGENC Collab, Dhan Mills, New Delhi. Having survived complex issues related to mental health, sexual, emotional and physical abuse since a very early age, he finds it imperative to talk about such pressing social matters at hand, that are not talked about enough because they make the masses uncomfortable. He uses his social media to host thematic discourses with people who share their stories in the realm of sexual abuse, sexual health, mental health and queer life expectancy, amongst various other themes.
