Shahrzad Hamzeh is an Iranian Dancer, Choreographer, Musician, Director, Actor, Writer, Poet, Photographer, and Artist who had to leave Iran to pursue her passion for performance due to illegality of dance in Iran. Hamzeh holds a BA in Urdu Literature and Language from University of Tehran, a MA in Theatre Studies from Illinois State University, and she is now a PhD in Visual and Performing Arts Studies with a focus in Dance student at The University of Texas at Dallas. Hamzeh’s research interests are Dance and Sexuality, Dance as a Tool in Healing from Trauma, Dance as a way to preserve Culture, Dances of Silk Road, Ritualistic Dance, and Dance and Religion.
