Reflections on the Way to the Gallows (2010-2013) is a series of 11 videos that embrace experimental narrative based on historical documents. Filming at the sites of former gallows, the work questions the consumption of death for public spectacle while uncovering hidden histories, making the absent/present.
Filmed at the site of Dallas’ first courthouse, slave Jane Elkins was the first person to be hung in 1853. She was convicted of killing her master named Wisdom with an axe-blow to the head.
