Budd Dees works in digital worldmaking, performance/sculpture, and time-based media. His work focuses on surface, ornamentation, and drag as pre-conditions of relational design, social engagement, and negotiated versus autonomous spaces. While educated as an experimental new media and time-based artist, he maintains close ties to painting, having had a formative experience studying in residence under Dana Schutz. He has exhibited internationally as a part of the Month of Performance Art in Berlin, HomeBase in Saitama, Japan, and in various shows around the continental United States. Additionally, he has presented at the College Art Association, written for Art Papers and BurnAway Magazine, and curated exhibitions emphasizing affect and sensorial pleasure in electronic artwork.
