Seth Warren-Crow

Seth Warren-Crow is a sound artist, sound designer, and composer for theatre, dance, performance art, and film. He received a MFA in Electronic Music and Recording Media from Mills College in California. Seth is Assistant Professor of Sound Design for the School of Theatre and Dance at Texas Tech University. He was the Musical Director for the Department of Dance at the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee from 2009-2013.

Seth’s sound design combines original composition, field recordings, samples from film and other media, and voice to create intricate and often uncanny soundscapes. Seth’s sound design and composition for dance has been featured at such venues as La Mama Experimental Theatre Club (NY), The Harlem Stage eMoves Festival (NY), The Milwaukee Ballet (WI), the Coco Dance Festival (Trinidad and Tobago), and The American Dance Festival (NC). Seth frequently collaborates with performance artist Heather Warren-Crow as warren-crow+warren-crow. Some of their notable performances include The Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design & Space (Czech Republic), World Stage Design (Taiwan), The Porsgrunn International Theater Festival (Norway), Diapason gallery (New York), the Soundwalk Festival (CA), and an artist residency at The Museum of Performance + Design in San Francisco (CA).

Seth’s film score credits include Studies in Space directed by Tate Bunker (co-composed with Amanda Schoofs) and Night Feeding directed by Sarah K. Reimers.

Seth’s research interests include the intersection of ecological thinking and arts practice, permaculture, bio-regionalism, and eco-scenography; sound design for performance and film; electronic and electro-acoustic music composition; sound design in non-traditional spaces; devised theatre; practices and theories of sound art; experimental and improvisatory music (jazz, free improvisation); collaboration across the arts; performance and emerging technologies; site-specific performance; intercultural performance; Western and non-Western music history; and radio production.
