Kahsandra Williams is a multidisciplinary artist and U.S. Army veteran whose practice explores identity, trauma, resilience, and the complexities of being multiracial in contemporary society. Born in Florida and raised in Texas, Williams joined the military at 19 and served for nearly seven years before being medically retired following multiple injuries and surgeries.
Currently pursuing her MFA at Texas Tech University School of Art, Williams draws on her lived experiences as an African American and Caucasian woman, a mother, and a disabled veteran. Her work spans sculpture and performance, using found and organic materials—particularly cotton—to investigate memory, emotional endurance, and the tension between control and surrender.
For Williams, artmaking is both a therapeutic process and a critical response to societal inequities. Her work seeks to make visible the emotional labor and inner resilience required to navigate systems that often marginalize or overlook intersectional identities. Through her practice, she invites viewers to engage with vulnerability, transformation, and the enduring pursuit of self-worth.
